Chris graduated from the University of NSW as a civil engineer in 1980. Together with his wife Trish he entered the hospitality industry 20 years ago when they established a serviced apartment complex in Brisbane. Subsequently, they managed a tourism complex in Byron Bay. In 2004 they established The Observatory Hotel, in Port Macquarie. Under the Denny’s’ guidance The Observatory became acknowledged as one of the most successful strata tourism properties sustainability pioneers in Australia and was one of a very few hotels to have achieved officially-endorsed carbon-neutral status. In total, they were recognised with 65 Regional, State, National and International accolades across the trifecta of Triple Bottom Line excellence.
