Opportunities and Barriers for New Technologies in the Next Generation Grid
‘Opportunities and Barriers for New Technologies in the Next Generation Grid’: Commercialisation of cleantech innovations through the development of commercial partnerships and deployment activities.”
Electricity networks are facing an era of unprecedented change, with renewable energy, distributed generation and storage, smart meters and electric cars set to remake the industry as we know it. Despite the obvious benefits of new technologies though, the established grid can be resistant – if not hostile – to innovative approaches to the provision of cheap, clean and reliable power. In this talk, Dr Tim MacTaggart will talk about some of the barriers that exist to innovative new technologies, and how these can be overcome through effective partnerships to maximise the impact of these technologies for developers, utilities and the networks themselves.
