Education and Behaviour Change – Tools for Community change

Education is a powerful tool for community engagement and, in turn, community change. An informed and engaged community is a motivated community. However, what a community thinks they know, says they know and actually knows can be three very different things. Prior to changing behaviours, it is essential to understand the current behaviours, the reason for these behaviours and be able to identify the barriers and motivators for change. Through use of case studies and examples, the presentation will discuss the principles of Community Based Social marketing and behaviour change, and highlight how this knowledge can help businesses to identify and shape a range of relevant and effective education approaches to address the needs of different target audiences. The presentation will outline the importance of well-timed and targeted education direction and delivery, and how the impact of these educational approaches on influencing positive change within the community can be effectively assessed.
