Protecting your Cleantech Intellectual Property
Presenter: Jessica Chadbourne, Patent Attorney, Shelston IP
Cleantech SMEs and start-ups are cash-poor – I get that. But if you commit tens of thousands of dollars to developing a new cleantech product, you need to be able to recoup that when you enter the market. There’s only one problem: your competitors, who haven’t spent a cent, can swoop in, copy your product and undercut you – unless, of course, you have a patent (and/or other forms of IP). IP is part “necessary” and part “evil” (in the sense that SMEs have enough to worry about without having to spend money on intangibles). In this talk, we’ll drill down into why “necessary” wins out, how IP is an effective strategic business tool, and get you thinking about where your company’s IP may reside.
